Do You Require the Expertise of a Hernia Specialist?

Inguinal Hernia

Inguinal Hernias Among the different types of hernias, inguinal hernias are the most frequently encountered. Although they can affect women, they tend to occur more commonly in males. Shockingly, statistics reveal that about 1 in 4 males will experience an inguinal hernia at some point in their lifetime. Males are more prone to this type of hernia due to the testicle descending from the abdomen into the scrotum, leading to a natural weakness in the groin region where inguinal hernias typically develop.

For laparoscopic inguinal hernia repairs, I employ a tackless technique that not only minimizes immediate postoperative pain but also reduces the chances of chronic pain.

Haital Hernia

Hiatal hernias often manifest later in life and can give rise to a range of symptoms. These symptoms may include heartburn, nausea, vomiting, regurgitation, abdominal pain, chest pain, difficulty swallowing, bloating, belching, or coughing. The term "hiatal" is derived from "hiatus" (or opening), specifically referring to the esophageal hiatus.

Umbilical Hernia

Encountered frequently, umbilical hernias are one of the most common types. They occur naturally and can affect individuals of all ages, from infants to the elderly. These hernias form at the navel, also known as the umbilicus, which is a site where the umbilical cord previously passed through. Consequently, it acts as a natural weak spot in the abdominal wall.

Umbilical hernias present as painless bulges at the navel, which may grow larger and more painful over time. They tend to cause more discomfort during physical activity or prolonged standing, necessitating the expertise of an experienced hernia surgeon to achieve a successful outcome.

"Dr. Barrios recently repaired an inguinal hernia on me with the robotic surgery. She did a great job. Dr. Barrios was very professional and made me feel comfortable thorough answering questions before and after the surgery. Her team is kind and knowledgeable. The Winchester hospital staff was caring and thoughtful with my family during and after the procedure. I am feeling good within several weeks and ready to continue my sport activities. I would definitely recommend Dr. Barrios to my friends. "
